An Israeli reporter has been accidentally stabbed – while demonstrating the power of a stab-proof vest.
Reporter Eitam Lachover was testing out the vest for Channel 2 News with Yaniv Montakyo, the vice president of the company which designed the vest, when Mr Montakyo accidentally stabbed him in an area not protected by the vest.
In a video recorded for the news feature, Mr Montakyo can be seen pulling out a commando knife made from steel. Mr Lachover laughs and says, “you’re going to stab me with this?” before being assured by Mr Mobtakyo, “We are very confident in our product…Don’t be afraid, if something happens, I’m here.”
He then holds the reporter down and proceeds to stab him in the back – but unfortunately the third strike of the knife tore the jacket, wounding Mr Lachover.
Mr Lachover said that he had not been seriously injured in the accident, writing on Twitter: “Superficial stab wounds, had some stitches and was released back home. Many thanks to everyone for your concern!”.
The introduction of the vest comes amid a wave of stabbing attacks across Israel. There have now been 147 attacks since mid-September, resulting in the deaths of 21 Israelis and an American student.
