The shows will take place in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem
March 5, 2025 15:55Iconic British comedian John Cleese, best known for his work with Monty Python, will stage three shows in Israel this June, with performances scheduled in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
The 85-year-old actor, writer, and comedian will bring his new tour, An Evening with John Cleese, to audiences in the two cities. Tickets for the shows are priced between 289 and 549 shekels (£62-£117).
They will mark Cleese’s second run in Israel, following his 2019 show, ironically titled Last Time to See Me Before I Die, at Tel Aviv’s Charles Bronfman Auditorium.
An Evening with John Cleese will offer a personal reflection on his illustrious career, sharing stories from his time with Monty Python and on the set of Fawlty Towers. The performance will also touch on current events, with Cleese likely offering his unique take on global and local issues, including the situation in Israel.
Cleese’s comedy career dates back to 1969 when he co-founded the iconic Monty Python troupe alongside Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, and Terry Gilliam.
Their groundbreaking sketch show, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, became a cultural phenomenon, influencing comedy worldwide.
The group’s influence expanded with the release of cult-classic films, including Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979), and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (1983), after which the members pursued solo projects.
In addition to his work with Python, Cleese is known for creating and starring in the beloved sitcom Fawlty Towers in 1975, which ran for just two series but has achieved cult status among BritCom fans.
He also starred in the hit film A Fish Called Wanda (1988), which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Most recently, Cleese appeared in Roman Polanski’s film The Palace.
