Hamas’ last stronghold is under attack in a new large-scale IDF operation to root out terror. The target of the military action is the southern Gaza city of Rafah, which is understood to be home to Hamas’s last intact brigade, key commanders, and crucial smuggling tunnels.

The IDF is aiming to take control of land, in line with recent reports that Israel will seize a quarter of Gaza land to pressure Hamas to free hostages. Channel 12 quoted a security source saying that Israeli control of territory will weaken Hamas in front of the population and force it to move more quickly towards a deal.
