82 per cent of drivers involved in serious accidents were men, and only 18 per cent were women
March 10, 2022 11:32v Women are better drivers than men, according to a study carried out by the Israel National Road Safety Authority.
Research published by the organisation for International Women’s Day found that men drive in a “more aggressive manner”, leading to a higher involvement in car accidents.
According to INRSA figures, men are involved in accidents up to twice as frequently as women.
In Israel from 2013-2019, 82 per cent of drivers involved in serious accidents were men, and only 18 per cent were women, the report said.
Responding to the research, Israeli Minister of Transport Merav Michaeli said: “Let the wheel be in safe hands — of women. It is time to act logically. On the next family trip — the women need to drive.”
The report suggested there were two factors that increase the risk of car accidents for men. First, men drive more and second, they tend to take on more risks on the road.
The study also said that driving culture among men was more “aggressive and less safe,” a key example of this being the tendency to speed. The research also showed men committed more traffic offences.
The INRSA study said similar reports around the world confirmed the Israeli situation was not an isolated one.
It added that a recent report published in Europe showed that men aged 15-30 were four times more likely to be involved in fatal accidents than women in the same age group.
Other figures for Europe from 2017-2019 showed men accounted for 81 per cent of road accident fatalities within the 15-30 age range.
