Israeli Police have recommended indicting Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, over allegations of fraudulent activities at the prime minister’s residence in Jerusalem.
The advice was based on evidence relating to three separate allegations of fraud.
In one, Mrs Netanyahu was accused of using public money to pay for food and private chefs for family events at the prime minister’s residence.
There was also a recommendation to indict the prime minister’s wife for paying for a live-in carer for her father out of the budget of the prime minister’s residence.
Thirdly, police claimed there was evidence that Mrs Netanyahu fraudulently employed electrician Avi Fahima, a former Likud Central Committee member who has been friendly with Mr Netanyahu for years.
Mrs Netanyahu was questioned under caution in December 2015 by the fraud investigation unit, and was asked to detail her involvement in the running of the prime minister’s residence.
Extra evidence was said to have been supplied by Meni Naftali, the former chief caretaker at the residence in Jerusalem, who successfully sued Mrs Netanyahu over abuse claims in a separate case.
