Israeli photographer wins top Edinburgh award

articlemain

Israel's Leonid Goldin was awarded one of three Fiap (Federation International de l'Art Photographique) ribbons in the Edinburgh Photographic Society's 149th international exhibition of photography for his photograph "Mushrooms-1".

Selector Barbie Lindsay, who awarded the ribbon, said: "The quality is just outstanding. At first, it appears to be a still-life, but upon further inspection it takes on a twist.

"Under the glass dome not only is there the incongruity of the fungi but the photographer has also included a dragonfly. It begs many questions that cannot be answered."

Goldin has four photographs among the 202 in the exhibition, drawn from just over 2,000 entries.

It continues at the Photographic Exhibition Centre in Great King Street, Edinburgh, until September 4.
