The new Israeli ambassador to Egypt has started work in the country three months after his predecessor was forced out during a riot.
After a violent mob stormed the embassy in Cairo in early September, Israeli and Egyptian commandoes carried out an emergency operation to evacuate the embassy and fly the then-ambassador, Yitzhak Levanon and his family to safety.
A small diplomatic team returned to Cairo soon after the siege and Mr Levanon's successor, Yaakov Amitai, has now arrived to take his place.
Relations between the two countries plummeted in the wake of the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak during the Arab Spring last February, while the success of Islamist parties in the early stages of the Egyptian parliamentary elections has raised concerns that the fragile peace treaty could be overturned. However Egypt's military leadership has said publicly that it is committed to preserving the peace treaty, agreed at Camp David in 1979.
