Israel’s ambassador to the UK was among the first of its citizens to cast a vote in the presidential elections.

Ambassador Daniel Taub cast his vote at the embassy this morning as part of the overseas voting process. New Zealand was the first country in the world to open the polls at 4 am GMT today. Overseas voting will conclude early Friday morning in Los Angeles.

Some 4260 Israeli workers overseas will cast their ballots in 95 missions internationally. Official Israeli delegates, including diplomats, civil servants and Jewish Agency workers, have been voting from outside Israel since 1996.

"As we go behind the screen to choose our vote, every one of us gives expression to his or her own conscience and individual outlook,” Ambassador Taub said. “But once we have cast our vote, we again are united in working together to represent the state of Israel. In its own way, our embassy is a model of how Israeli society can work together."

Recent polls have shown that the priorities of Israeli voters have changed. Most Israelis will now concentrate on both security and socioeconomic issues as opposed to just security.
