U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will declare the start of new Israeli-Palestinian peace talks tomorrow if the Palestinian leadership agrees to return to the table.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was reportedly due to meet with fellow leaders to discuss the proposed resumption of talks at 1pm local time.
A senior Israeli official told Haaretz that if all goes to plan, Mr Kerry will state that talks will be based on the principle that Israel is a Jewish state, and will use the 1967 lines as a starting point when negotiating borders.
Both sides will be able to voice their opposition to this outline during talks which Mr Kerry is expected to say he hopes will create “two states for two peoples”.
