Girls get football fix in Israel

articlemain

As England's women footballers bask in the glory of their World Cup third-place finish, preparations are under way for another ground-breaking tournament.

Uefa's European Women's under-19 Championship finals kick off in Israel next week.

It will be the first time the tournament has been played in the country.

On Wednesday, the New Israel Fund held a special event as part of its Kick It Out campaign, which combats racism and violence in football.

Three girls' teams made up of Jewish and Arab players joined training sessions with the England and Israel under-19 players.

In partnership with the football associations of both countries they promoted the "football for all" scheme promoting social cohesion.

The young footballers taking part were from the Maccabi Yefiya, Maccabi Kishronot Hadera and Netanya Girls teams.

The tournament will take place in Netanya from July 15 until the end of the month.

Eight countries will take part, including England, Germany and Spain.
