An Israeli rabbi and father of four has been laid to rest in the town of Petah Tikva after he was stabbed to death in an attack on Wednesday afternoon.
Around 200 friends and family of Rabbi Shai Ohayon gathered for his funeral at the Segula Cemetary in the early hours of Thursday morning, though only 40 were allowed in for the service.
Rabbi Ohayon was stabbed multiple times. Following a manhunt, a 46-year-old Palestinian suspect was arrested near the scene with a bloodied knife, according to local police, who have since handed him over to the Shin Bet.
Rabbi Ohayon, who was 39, is survived by his wife Sivan and their four children: Tohar, 13, Hillel, 11, Shiloh, 9, and Malachi, 4.
Rabbi Micha Halevy, Petah Tikva’s head rabbi, said: “Today the nation of Israel knows who Rabbi Shai was. We ask Rabbi Shai to pray for all of us from above.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also sent his condolences to the grieving family, adding: "We will act to demolish the terrorist's home and see that he gets the most severe punishment."
