Jonathan Pollard, who was jailed for spying for Israel, is to be freed on November 21 after the US granted his parole, according to his lawyers.
The former US Navy intelligence officer will be required to remain in the United States for five years after his release.
Pollard, 60, has served 30 years of a life sentence.
His former wife, Anne Pollard, gave an interview to an Israeli television channel at the weekend, in which she said: “I just want to see him out, I can’t bear it any more, that he sat and lost all of his life in jail, it’s a crime, it’s such a crime”.
She also said that she was “One hundred per cent sure” that Pollard would want to move to Israel after his release. “What would he destroy his life for if not to live in his own country?”, she said.
Pollard was sentenced to life in 1987 for spying for Israel.
America has previously refused to release Pollard despite repeated pleas from Israeli leaders.
Pollard filed for divorce from Anne in 1990 so that she could move on with her life. He subsequently re-married while in prison.
