In what is believed to be the first event of its kind, Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis has inducted a new rabbi into a synagogue in Israel.
On Wednesday evening Rabbi Boruch Boudilovsky was inducted as the minister of the Young Israel Synagogue of North Netanya, a community which is made up almost entirely of “Anglos” – British Jews who have made Aliyah to Israel.
The Board of the shul decided, given the congregation’s make-up, to give its rabbi a British-style induction ceremony.
Prior to taking up his position in Netanya, Rabbi Boudilovsky served as associate rabbi of Borehamwood and Elstree United Synagogue, before being appointed to lead a new satellite “Yavneh” community in Borehamwood.
