A quintet of donkeys in northern Israel have been fitted with wireless routers in an unusual bid to boost tourism.

Visitors to Kfar Kedem in the Galilee region are given a taste of ancient biblical life as they tour the area on the backs of the animals.

But as well as taking in the sights of the ancient town of Hashaya, tourists can now tweet about the experience or post photographs on Facebook, thanks to the unique donkey web connection. The routers are fitted on to each of the donkeys' feed bags.

"We have 30 donkeys in our town," the manager of the site told the Israel Hayom newspaper. He said the aim was to attract a younger generation. "We will consider whether to equip more as time goes on."
