(JNS) He was not supposed to be there.

But when a colleague offered Israeli Police Sgt. Remo Salman El-Hozayel 1,000 shekels (£225) to replace her at the desert music festival for a simple 12-hour shift on October 7 he agreed, even though his wife did not really like the idea.

The officer, who is a member of the Bedouin community in southern Israel, later realized that his Jewish colleague did not want to take the shift because it was a holiday (Simchat Torah)/Shabbat weekend.

“It was all the hand of God,” El-Hozayel recounted Thursday in an interview with JNS.
