Israel set to loosen rules on entry from UK

New measures mean Israelis will be allowed to travel from Britain – but foreign nationals still require a special permit

Israelis will be allowed to return from Britain under measures set to come into force next Monday.

Britain is currently a “red” country, but will be designated “orange” from next Monday under new plans subject to approval from a Knesset committee.

All arrivals from an orange country are required to self-isolate for a week.

The changes do not apply to foreign nationals, who currently require a special permit to enter into Israel.

Israel has also been hit by the highly contagious Delta variant, with 2,916 new cases reported on Saturday.

Ministers are considering plans to increase bed capacity across Israeli hospitals should cases continue to spike, according to the Times of Israel.

The outlet also reports that ministers recently clashed over the possibility of a fourth lockdown during the High Holy Days.

Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, meanwhile, renewed pleas to members of the public to get vaccinated in remarks on Sunday.

“If we get vaccinated in Elul, or in [the following month of] Tishrei, we can hear the shofar together,” he said.
