Acid attack victim Kirstie Trup is prepared to return to Zanzibar to help bring her assailants to justice, and insists she has “no regrets”.

Ms Trup and her friend Katie Gee, both 18-year-old former JFS students, were injured in the attack on the east African island where they were working as volunteer teachers.

Now Ms Trup has said that if the attackers are brought to trial she is willing to return to give evidence. According to her father, Marc: “She has told me she would be prepared to do that.”

But, he added, this time her parents would accompany her.

Mr Trup said his daughter was glad she had had the experience of teaching on the island. “She has no regrets about going there. She loved the place, the people and the children in her care.”

Chief of Zanzibar Police Mussa Ali Mussa said this week that he expected the attackers would be found and charged in the coming days.

He said: “We are questioning people. Two people were arrested, but have been granted bail.”

Ms Trup has returned home from Chelsea and Westminster hospital following a skin graft and is now an outpatient and “progressing well”. However, Ms Gee, who suffered more significant burns, is still in hospital. Mr Trup said: “The girls are in regular contact.”

Both girls received their A-level results last week and secured their places at their chosen university. Mr Trup confirmed that his daughter would be taking up her place to study history at Bristol.

He said: “She has an incredibly positive attitude to life. This will give her the ammunition to deal with what happened in Zanzibar and with what else lies ahead.”
