Board of Deputies president Vivian Wineman said he was “positive” about the possibility of sharing new headquarters with the Jewish Leadership Council “and I believe they are, too.”
The Board, which is planning to sell its Bloomsbury base in central London, has been in discussions with the JLC since last summer about unifying the two organisations. But former Board vice-president Flo Kaufmann said there had been unease in the past at housing multiple Jewish organisations on the same premises after the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires.
Mr Wineman agreed that security was a “big consideration” but added: that there were “so many advantages” to sharing space.
