Hot air at Hasmonean for WJR's Nepal appeal

articlemain

More than 400 Hasmonean pupils raised awareness and money for Nepal on Monday by taking part in a school-wide balloon race for World Jewish Relief.

Pupils across years seven to 10 from both the boys’ and girls’ campuses, in Hendon and Mill Hill respectively, congregated at lunchtime to launch their helium-filled balloons, which had their prayers and thoughts for the people of Nepal attached.

Their efforts raised £900, helping WJR’s Nepal appeal exceed £350,000. The money raised will go towards providing blankets, tents, food and medical supplies to victims of recent devastating earthquakes in Nepal.

“Once our students heard that children as young as them had no clean water, no food and no shelter, they wanted to do something to help,” said Hasmonean teacher Jennifer Wilks.

“They are very generous and wanted to show that it’s important to help other people — not just those in our own community.”

Year eight pupil Micol Weider added: “We wish all the people in Nepal a speedy recovery and good health.”
