Helen Kluger writes an Oscar winner’s play - and it’s exclusively for the internet

articlemain

Award winning playwright Helen Kluger has written a drama that stars Oscar-winner Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake) and Tessa Peake-Jones (Only Fools & Horses). But don’t expect to see on it stage. The play, Goose, was written exclusively for the web. It is believed to be the first such audio drama that is available for download.

Set in Holloway prison, it is a poignant tale of misplaced affections, betrayal and unexplained death.

Ms Kluger tells People: “I love writing for radio and the freedom it gives you artistically to roam. I realised that the internet also has that freedom and is a great place to offer original work to engage new audiences to drama.” She says that she wrote the play with Imelda Staunton and Tessa Peake-Jones in mind for the lead roles.

London-based Ms Kluger has written plays for Radio 4 and the World Service. Her play Rukulibam, based on her mother’s experiences of surviving the Holocaust, won an award at the New York Radio Festivals.
