Harrison Ford has been told that he will not be punished for accidentally landing his plane on a US airport taxiway.

The American actor and keen pilot, told air traffic control officers that he had been a "schmuck" when he landed his single-engine plane at California's John Wayne airport, in February.

Mr Ford, whose mother is Jewish, caused alarm after he flew over an American Airlines plane with 110 passengers and crew on board.

According to the actor’s lawyer, Stephen Hofer, the Federal Aviation Administration will not be taking any action and he is expected to retain his pilot's certificate "without restriction".

Mr Hofer said: "The FAA conducted a full investigation into the matter... and determined that no administrative or enforcement action was warranted.

"The agency acknowledged Mr Ford's long history of compliance with the Federal Aviation Regulations, and his cooperative attitude during the investigation.”

Mr Ford has a history of aeroplane related mishaps. In 20015 the Raiders of the Lost Ark star had a bumpy landing when he crash-landed on a golf course in Santa Monica.

He suffered a broken arm and incurred minor head injuries.

Mr Hofer said his client was "very happy" not to be facing any penalties.
