A Jewish teacher accused of sexual assaults on two schoolgirls is facing a retrial after a jury failed to reach a verdict.

Jurors were discharged by the trial judge on Monday after admitting they were unable to agree on the case of father-of-10 Todros Grynhaus, following almost three days of deliberation.

Mr Grynhaus, 50, is alleged to have molested the girls when they were between the ages of 13 and 15 then relied on the Orthodox Jewish community's "resentment" of reporting matters to the police to keep the allegations secret.

It was claimed that he breached his bail conditions and flew to Israel when the allegations first surfaced, only returning when he was rearrested and deported after almost two years.
