The Government has announced it is to donate £1 million to help preserve the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and ensure the lessons of the Holocaust "live on for generations".

On Holocaust Memorial Day, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab and Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick confirmed the money, which will be given to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation, would come from the Foreign Office and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Mr Jenrick attended the World Holocaust Forum at Yad Vashem on Thursday, where leaders from more than 50 countries assembled to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, which is on Monday.

The announcement about the money comes ahead of a speech Mr Raab will give at a Holocaust Memorial Event on Wednesday, in which he "will emphasise the importance of Holocaust remembrance and education as a means of ensuring such atrocities never happen again", a Government spokesperson said.
