The top performing Jewish secondary school in England is north London’s Yavneh College, according to A-level results revealed today.
Department of Education statistics released on Thursday show that the Borehamwood academy came joint 84th in A-level results last year, with an average score per pupil of 255.6 – the equivalent of a B grade.
Five other schools in the community achieved a B grade on average, including London-based institutions Menorah High School, Immanuel College, JFS and Hasmonean High School.
Manchester’s King David High School was the highest-scoring Jewish school outside of the capital, while JCoSS, in Barnet, achieved a B- with its first ever batch of A-level results.
Only King Solomon High School in Redbridge came in below the national average of 215.7. It scored 213.3 - the equivalent of a low C.
At GCSE level, KDHS was the best Jewish school in England, with 92 per cent of its students achieving five or more GCSEs including English and Maths at C grade or above.
At Hasmonean, Menorah and Yavneh the figure was 82 per cent.
The national average was 53.4 per cent.
Thirty-five per cent of Pardes House Grammar School pupils picked up five or more GCSEs at C or above, but the score does not include the results of students who take GCSE exams early before moving on to yeshivah.
The school pointed out that half of its students take GCSE Maths in Year 8 or 9, with 98 per cent achieving A* or A grades.
