The Golders Green Together group was due to end its month of activism by decorating the area with green and gold ribbons.
Set up by anti-extremism group Hope Not Hate and the London Jewish Forum to counter the threat of extremists, it went ahead with its plans on Friday despite the decision to move the protest to central London.
Hope Not Hate's Jemma Levene said the Together campaign had encouraged residents to celebrate community spirit and unity.
The ribbons were tied to lampposts and shop owners were encouraged to fix them to their stores along Golders Green Road.
Ms Levene said: "We were able to show that Golders Green could stand together."
