Gesher, the Jewish primary special school due to open next September, has appointed a headteacher and chairman of governors.

Gianna Colizza, who has headed a primary school autism centre and chaired a charity supporting autism, will lead the teaching team. She said she was "fortunate to have a career in something I am so passionate about".

Retired solicitor Howard Zetter, who has been part of the executive team planning the project, will chair its governing body.

Gesher will open on the campus of Sinai School in Kenton as the first school-within-a-school for Jewish children with special learning needs.

Founders Ali Durban and Sarah Sultman said that "to have two people on board of such a high calibre inspires us with confidence".
