Footballers Ian Wright, Stan Collymore and boxer Mike Tyson are among the sports stars featuring in a new book by Gershon Portnoi, the deputy editor of TalkSport’s online magazine.
Titled Ten Years of TalkSport: Inside the wacky world of Britain’s wildest radio station, it features behind-the-scenes stories about TalkSport, the UK’s first national sports radio station. It recalls the time when Abu Hamza was outed as a massive belly dancing fan, and when Ian Wright spoke on the pain of being a parent. The book marks ten years of TalkSport.
Mr Portnoi, 35, tells People: “It’s a good media insider’s story. There are loads of funny stories and personal anecdotes from the presenters.” He says: “Stan Collymore is a very open person. He has a chequered past but he doesn’t hide behind it,” he says.
The former sports editor of weekly lad mag Nuts, Mr Portnoi joined TalkSport in 2008. “I always thought I had at least one book in me. I would definitely like to do more on the back of this.” More than 10,000 copies have been sold.
