Former Conservative MP Lee Scott has said he is unlikely to stand for Parliament again after taking on a new post representing the Tamil community.
Mr Scott lost his Ilford North seat at May’s general election after a decade in the Commons.
During the campaign he was the target of death threats and antisemitic abuse and told the JC at the time that there was “no question in my mind” that the attacks had contributed to his defeat.
The former UJIA regional director was appointed this week to be an ambassador for the Tamil community, which he regularly represented in Parliament.
The British Tamils Forum said Mr Lee would travel to international conferences and investigate the killing of thousands of Tamils in the Sri Lankan civil war.
The ambassadorial role was an honour, Mr Lee said. He added that while he did not currently plan to stand for election he might seek the chance to serve in public office again in the future.
