Elizabeth Israel has raised £200,000 for Jewish Care

articlemain

Elizabeth Israel has been raising money for Jewish Care homes across the UK for the past two decades.

She has raised more than £200,000 through the charity Homes Outings Programme and Entertainment (HOPE), which she set up with her husband Leon in 1995 to provide excursions and events for residents of Jewish Care homes.

The Finchley-based grandmother tells People: “We hated the thought of residents feeling institutionalised, thinking that they might never go out again. They need something to look forward to and realise that there is a world out there.” Mrs Israel has organised more than 400 events including trips to theatres, museums, restaurants, music halls, river cruises, synagogues and London coach tours. She has been volunteering in the community for over 25 years, starting on at the Michael Sobell Community Centre, Golders Green.
