Election result: Renfrewshire East

Labour's Jim Murphy has securely held on to his seat in Renfrewshire East with more than 50 per cent share of votes.

A total 25,987 voted for Mr Murphy, the Secretary of State for Scotland, a former chair of Labour Friends of Israel, who comfortably fought of f his Conservative opponent, Richard Cook.

Liberal Democrat Gordon MacDonald gained just 9.2 per cent of votes and the Scottish National Party’s Gordon Archer, came fourth with 8.9 per cent share of votes (4,535).

The affluent area, south of Glasgow, is home to around 4,500 Jews, who represent six per cent of the electorate.
