Labour's Sir Graham Stringer won Blackley and Broughton, home to the Jewish areas of Higher Crumpsall and Broughton Park and the King David schools, with a 12,000-plus majority.
The BNP’s Derek Adams, who hosted Nick Griffin's Euro election victory party at his Ace of Diamonds pub, polled 2,469 votes.
Sir Graham represented the old constituency of Manchester Blackley for 13 years. He said: “It’s been a campaign like no other I’ve been involved in.
"What a privilege it has been to represent Manchester and north Manchester for the last 13 years and it’s an extraordinary privilege to be the first MP to represent not just Manchester but the next great city next to Manchester – Salford."
A former Manchester City Council leader, Sir Graham is a long-standing friend of the Jewish community. His closest challenger was Tory James Edsberg.
