The Ilford-based charity Drugsline was put into voluntary liquidation this week. The Chabad-supported drugs outreach organisation, run by Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin, who received an MBE for his work, has educated hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren in its 23 years of operation, as well as supporting drugs users and their families. Its closure was announced in the JC three weeks ago.

After a meeting of members and creditors at David Rubin & Partners LLP, the decision was made to liquidate.

Asher Miller, one of the liquidators, said: "This clearly is a sad day for all those people who have been involved with this charity and touched by its work."

Mr Miller pointed to a fall in donations coupled with a cut in government and local-authority funding as the reasons for the charity's closure.
