Dorien on the dancefloor? Lesley Joseph is set for Strictly

Lesley Joseph could become Strictly Come Dancing’s oldest female participant, according to reports.

The actress, best known for her role as Dorien in TV sitcom Birds of a Feather, is said to be taking to the ballroom in this year’s series, which kicks off in September.

If reports are true, the 70-year-old will be the third oldest contestant in the BBC programme’s history, behind the late magician Paul Daniels, then 72, and radio DJ Johnny Ball, then 74.

But while others may blush at some of the dancing competition’s skimpier costumes, Ms Joseph is most likely unflustered; she once told the JC that her sitcom character could never be seen in middle-aged clothes.

“She has to be seen in things that a 20-year-old would wear,” the Jewish actress said.

Other celebrities expected to be donning their gladrags for the dancing competition this year include former pop star Louise Redknapp and singer Will Young.
