A Manchester kosher shop was targeted by thieves, only days after his home was broken into.

Early last Tuesday evening, Motti Gershon’s Shefa Mehadrin kosher deli was targeted by armed robbers who threatened a till assistant with a hammer and robbed two cash registers.

Only days before, thieves ransacked Mr Gershon’s house in the Sedgley Park area while he and his wife were at friends for Friday night dinner. Jewellery, a car and phones were taken.

Mr Gershon said this week that his Vauxhall Zafira had now been recovered by police after it was found with bodywork damage only a couple of miles away from where it was taken.

“My whole house was turned upside down, and anything of value was taken,” he said. “And this is the second robbery on my shop.”

Last August three masked men armed with knives and a hammer threatened staff at the store before ripping out a till. At that time, the assailants gained only a few notes and small change.

Mr Gershon says the thefts are rare coincidences and that security steps recommended by crime prevention officers will stop any others.

DC Dave Thorpe from Bury CID said that the store’s cameras were unable to identify the thieves and urged anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers.
