David Malin inspires people with his poems

articlemain

Retired English teacher David Malin is sharing his long-standing love of language in his collection of poems.

Mr Malin, who suffers from bipolar disorder - a condition that causes severe mood swings - hopes his anthology, Lovesongs of Innocence and Experience, will inspire those who read it.

He tells People: "I love writing. The book has been a huge project. I have selected poems from ones that I have written over the past 30 years, since I was a teenager." He says: "I found great satisfaction in inspiring young people with the beauty of words. I hope the poems do the same for others."

The 53 year-old, who studied English at Cambridge before teaching the subject for many years, was diagnosed as bipolar when he was in his twenties.

Mr Malin says he finds writing poetry particularly therapeutic and enjoys reciting his work to raise awareness of mental health issues.

He recently did so at a fundraising for event for JAMI, the Jewish Association for Mental Illness, an organisation particularly close to his heart.
