v NEWcastle violinist David Biermann is using his musical prowessto raise money for
children with polio.
Mr Biermann, 65, has compiled a CD featuring his performances of 14 violin and piano tracks, with sale proceeds going to help treat the highly infectious disease that can cause paralysis.
The former music teacher is acting in conjunction with the Easington and Peterlee Rotary Club, of which he is vice president. The club has picked End Polio Now as its official charity.
Mr Biermann, who lives in Easington, tells People: "I have been doing recitals and decided that the pieces could be put together for another purpose. I think it's very important for me to be using my music for a good cause." His wife Susan composed the title track, End Polio Now.
Mr Biermann is a member of the Newcastle United Hebrew Congregation and has been involved in Rotary for the past five years.
