North London’s Danielle Livesey has launched a unique music competition to help break down barriers between young Israelis and Palestinians.
The Soldier’s Eyes Project, run in association with MTV and Boom! — a volunteering project for 16-to-25-year-olds — invites entrants in that age range to make a music video to accompany the release of a new song, called Soldier’s Eyes, by Jack Savoretti, the half-English, half-Italian solo acoustic singer. The winner will have their creation screened across all MTV channels next month.
Ms Livesey, 42, tells People: “I wanted to start something to send out a message for change and thought the best way was to reach out to younger people and through music. I feel you have to start from the ground upwards. My inspiration was the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” She has spent the past year developing the idea with Mr Savoretti’s record label, De Angelis Records, and Fertile Ground, a charity working on youth programmes in the Middle East. “This is something I am really committed to, which is very close to my heart.” The makers of the winning video will also receive a special award at the Boom! Awards to be held in London in April. Proceeds from the sale of Soldier’s Eyes will go towards cultural and sports projects designed to break down barriers between young Israelis and Palestinians.
A number of Jewish and Muslim youth clubs have signed up to the competition.
