Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe has confirmed he is expecting his first child with long-term partner Erin Darke later this year.
The actors have been together for a decade after meeting on the set of the film Kill Your Darlings in 2013.
The 33-year-old Jewish star played poet Allen Ginsberg in the film, and Darke, 38, featured as Gwendolyn, a romantic interest.
In 2020 he said of their encounter: “It’ll be a hell of a story to tell our kids one day, our characters are meeting and flirting with each other, so there is this kind of sweet record of us just meeting for the first time.”
Radcliffe told Newsweek last year: "I want my kids - if and when they exist - I would love them to be around film sets."
The Mirror reported that “Daniel and Erin could not be happier to be expecting. They are absolutely thrilled, and can’t wait to become a family of three.
“They told their families and friends recently. It’s an incredibly exciting time.”
Radcliffe's Harry Potter co-star, Rupert Grint, who played Ronald Weasley in the films, has a three-year-old daughter, Wednesday, with actor Georgia Groome.
Radcliffe, who’s mum was born to a Jewish family in South Africa, previously told the Jewish Journal he is "proud to be Jewish."
His maternal grandmother was an evacuee during the WWII, taken to the country to stay with people away from Nazi bombers.
In 2019 Radcliffe appeared on the BBC show Who Do You Think You Are?, which helps celebrities learn more about their ancestry, and learned of the impact antisemitism had on his family.
His great-grandfather, Samuel Gershon, was a British Jew who owned a jewellery business in Hatton Garden, London. In 1936, Gershon’s shop was robbed and the police accused him of faking the robbery.
“Jews are so frequently responsible for the bringing down of their own business premises,” the police report stated.
Radcliffe, who was brought to tears, said “there’s a lot to dig into in that one sentence. It’s very jarring to see being a Jew to be taken as a piece of evidence in itself.”
Gershon died by suicide in the aftermath of that incident.
