Commerical barrister Daniel Lightman has written a book about cricket. Howzat for something different?
Mr Lightman, 38, is the co-author of Cricket Grounds from the Air, which features specially-commissioned aerial photographs of all of the major grounds in England and Wales, plus personal recollections by more than 100 cricketers including Andrew Strauss, Ramnaresh Sarwan and the Jewish former South African captain Ali Bacher. The book, which he co-wrote with Zaki Cooper, director of New Business for Europe, includes an introduction by former England batsman turned commentator Geoffrey Boycott.
Mr Lightman tells People: “I am a huge cricket fan and have written a few articles on cricket in the past.” He says the book will appeal both to people who do not know much about cricket grounds but are interested in them, as well as the cognoscenti.
“Alongside the aerial photographs, there is information about each ground, the history of the county which plays there and recollections by famous cricketers of playing at their favourite ground. Interviewing these cricketers — ranging from 98-year-old Cyril Perkins to the current England captain Andrew Strauss — was the most fun part of writing the book.”
Hampstead-based Mr Lightman gained a double First in Classics from Oxford University, where he was president of the Jewish Society. Today, he is a barrister at Serle Court in Lincoln’s Inn.
