Modern Life is Rubbish. That’s not necessarily my opinion — it is the name of the latest film by producer Daniel Gill.
Mr Gill’s new award-winning movie has been screened across the world at film festivals including the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, the Montreal World Cinema Film Festival and The Times BFI London Film Festival. Next up: the Curzon Cinema in Soho for the London Short Film Festival.
Modern Life is Rubbish, 13 minutes long, is a bittersweet romantic comedy which takes a heartfelt glance at a failing relationship. Mr Gill, 31, tells People: “We see the couple going through their music collection, talking about modern life and music and we see glimpses of what brought them together and what is now tearing them apart.”
The movie, which won an audience award at Luton’s Filmstock 11 International Film Festival, was produced by Trail Blazer Pictures, the company Mr Gill set up a year ago. He and the writer have now secured funding to turn the short into a feature-length film. “I am really optimistic but I don’t like to get too excited until it’s there in front of me. The short has had great feedback from the festivals and there is a buzz about it.”
Modern Life is Rubbish is the second short for London-based Mr Gill, who started out as a production runner for the Recorded Picture Company eight years ago.
He has since worked on several feature films, working his way up to assistant director. He has worked with top directors including Danny Boyle and Anthony Minghella, and on feature films Harry Potter, Wimbledon and Alexander.
