Sara Levene, a principal genetics counsellor at Guy's Hospital, is clinical supervisor for Jnetics screenings.
"I help patients to decide whether to have those kinds of tests," she says. "I'm the person who gives them the information so they can make a choice and then help support them through that process. It's regarding genetic testing for themselves or a pregnancy or IVF treatment.
The mother-of-three believes "most people will have a gut feeling about what they are going to do at the start of the situation. None of these choices are black and white - there's no right or wrong.
"We are not there to tell people what decision to make. We are there to give non-judgemental and non-directional advice. "We give good and bad news all the time."
But when dealing with your own community, "you can feel it more personally. It can feel closer to home".
