articlemain

Police have carried out a controlled explosion opposite the Israeli Embassy in London.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that a car was tested to see if it contained explosives this afternoon.

“A car was treated as suspicious. There was a controlled explosion to test it, to see if it was explosive, and it was found not be to be suspicious.

“All the safety gear and cordons are now being removed.”

A Transport For London spokeswoman said that suspicious package had "now been discovered to be personal belongings."

The vehicle was parked opposite the embassy building in Kensington, west London.

Embassy staff have been told that there was no threat, but nevertheless looked shaken upon leaving the building.

Kensington High Street was closed off by police as a result. It has now been re-opened.
