Having swapped a communal career for the commercial sector three years ago, former United Synagogue chief executive Rabbi Saul Zneimer is to make a temporary return to the pulpit.

From October, he will serve as part-time minister at Radlett Synagogue, which is without a rabbi following the departure of Ariel Abel. He will lead two Shabbatot each month and a weekly evening service.

The agreement covers a six-month period, with the option of an extension. Until Rabbi Zneimer's arrival, Radlett member and ex-US president Elkan Levy will oversee the community's three parallel High Holy Day services.

Radlett chair Andy Katz said Rabbi Zneimer's role with was "not just about taking Shabbat services. There will also be Friday night dinners and lots of educational activities. We know that Rabbi Zneimer has a passion for teaching and talking about Judaism to people of all ages and levels of commitment".
