Pupils from Immanuel College in Bushey are among the latest graduates of the Alan Senitt community leadership programme, linking year 10 pupils in mainstream and faith schools and promoting inter-community activity.

At the ceremony, guests were given an insight into the projects undertaken by the graduates, including an educational workshop on different religions organised by Immanuel pupils for a local middle school. Guest speaker was Mike Perham, who at the age of 17 last year became the youngest person to sail single-handed round the world.

The Alan Senitt Trust was set up in memory of the Jewish activist and interfaith worker who was murdered in America in 2006. His sister and trust chair Emma said: "We know that the future of all our communities, no matter what faith, background or culture, lies in the hands of the youth of today. Our programme demonstrably gives young people the skills and understanding to become active community leaders."

It has trained more than 150 young people of different faiths and hopes that more schools.
