After almost a year of holding services, York Liberal Jewish Community has been accepted by the Liberal Judaism Council as a new member.

Members of Liberal Judaism Council voted to accept YLJC as a full member, recognising the strides it has made since its inception last June in setting up a community in a city that has had no real Jewish identity for over 40 years.

With Shabbat services held on the second Saturday of each month and Kef children's club on a Friday afternoon, the York community enjoy a full range of religious and educational activities.

Lucian Hudson, chair of Liberal Judaism, congratulated chair of YLJC Ben Rich and said: "It is wonderful to have York as a member."

Mr Rich thanked the council for accepting YLJC into its membership.
