Four-hundred Yavneh College pupils were put through their paces by British Olympic triple jumper Larry Achike on Tuesday.
Achike visited the Borehamwood secondary to conduct a fitness circuit on behalf of Team Superschools, with participants raising £5,000 through sponsorship towards a trampoline and a support scheme for promising young athletes.
After completing a demanding series of exercises, pupils took advantage of the opportunity to quiz Achike about his career in international athletics, training methods and diet.
“It’s great to see the kids work so hard to bring in the money to sponsor this piece of equipment,” he said. “They are a really enthusiastic bunch.”
Bronty Snow, 14 — whose fav-ourite sports are rugby, football and tennis — raised £200 from her efforts. “It’s great to have a new piece of equipment and we’ve all worked really hard this morning to earn our sponsorship,” she said. “It was great fun meeting Larry.”
Adam Ingram, 14, said he had been motivated by the session: “I play football and it’s a real boost to have a sports star come into school to inspire you to train harder.”
