articlemain

Wizo UK has sent £1.75 million to Israel over the past year in support of its 100 welfare projects.

The fundraising total was announced at the women’s charity’s annual meeting, held at St John’s Wood Synagogue.

The AGM also saw the election of Jill Shaw as chair, succeeding Loraine Warren. Ms Shaw lives in Stanmore and has been involved in Wizo activities for many years.

She spoke of the major challenges facing Wizo, in particular increasing membership and the need to engage with younger women.

Rebecca Sieff awards were presented to Shirley Coleman of Liverpool and Sue Krisman of Reading, for outstanding contributions. The Susi Bradfield Aviv award for younger volunteers went to Herts resident Melissa Redbart.

Colonel Richard Kemp addressed the Sieff awards ceremony, commending Wizo’s work in protecting vulnerable families in Sderot following recent rocket attacks.
