Tory Party co-chair Baroness Warsi has described Jewish Care's Brenner Community Centre in Stamford Hill as "the Big Society in action".
Touring the premises last week, she was appreciative of the range of culturally sensitive services provided.
"Coming to the Brenner Centre has given me the opportunity to see for myself the phenomenal work that Jewish Care does," she said. "It is wonderful to see the happiness on the faces of everyone who uses your services. I am hugely impressed with the way that the Jewish community looks after its most vulnerable members."
Greeted by Simon Marks Primary pupils, she met local councillors and Jewish Care directors and trustees during the visit, as well as service users at the L'Chaim group, offering specialist care for those in the early stages of dementia and Alzheimer's. She also chatted with members of the Kadimah Centre for Wellbeing and long-time volunteer Marcia Feldman. She finished up by joining members in the dining room for fish and chips.
Jewish Care community services director Neil Taylor said: "We discussed the nature and complexity of the services that Jewish Care offers its clients. I believe Baroness Warsi has gained a clearer understanding of the Jewish community and its present and future needs and aspirations."
