In what has become a Mitzvah Day tradition, two Leyton Orient footballers visited Jewish Care’s Vi and John Rubens home in Ilford, where they chatted with residents, posed for photographs and signed autographs.

And among those David Mooney and Moses Odubajo met was a man who has supported the Os for more than 90 years.
Leslie Richmond, 100, recalled playing on Orient’s Brisbane Road pitch in a schoolboy match. He was well aware of Orient’s unbeaten start to the League One campaign, which ended with defeat to Preston at the weekend.

“This is the best season we’ve had for years,” he told the players. “I always look out for the results in the newspaper. I hope we win the league.”

The charity’s care and community services director Neil Taylor said: “It was great to see David and Moses take time out from their training to visit our elderly residents.

“Leyton Orient Football Club now has a wonderful relationship with the home and the residents look forward to the visit of the players every year.”
