The Union of Jewish Students has spoken of their sadness at the passing of a former national member and Gabbai of Leeds Hillel Minyan.
Joshua Carr, a University of Leeds Graduate, was an active member of the Leeds J-Soc before graduating and making Aliyah. He died earlier this week at the age of 23 in Israel.

He was described by friends on social media as a 'bright light lost too soon.' Robbie Metzger a university friend of Carr's, said: "On Tuesday the Jewish community and the whole world lost a true, genuine tzadik. I am so unbelievably sad that I haven’t been able to see you since you made aliyah and I can’t believe I will never see you again. Your energy, passion and love for life will be deeply and sorely missed. I will never forget the great memories we shared together in Leeds, on JSOC committee and talking (arguing!) about football."
The youth movement B'nei Akiva also wrote of their immense sadness of the passing of Joshua, writing on Facebook: "Bnei Akiva UK are extremely saddened, and heartbroken to hear the passing of our chaver Joshua Carr, Yehoshua Arieh Leib ben Yonatan Chaim HaCohen. Having been involved in our movement from Salford Sviva and through Machanot, Josh has been an exemplary dugma, living the ideals of Bnei Akiva in Israel after making Aliyah.
"To all those who had the privilege of knowing Josh knows what a light and inspiration he is to all those around him. He will be hugely missed by all those in the Tnua, our thoughts are with his family during this really difficult time."

In a Hesped prepared by Joshua's cousin Daniel Goldman, he said: "You taught us the power of dealing with the things we have, and not those we don’t. Through your faith and belief, sometimes challenged, but never diminished, you reached levels of spiritual riches few achieve living decades on this earth. This is perhaps the greatest lesson you have taught me."
